If you’ve read many of the articles featured on this blog, you may be a bit surprised to read the title of this one.
I’ve quite clearly established in this blog that there is no inherent “aggressive streak” in the Pit Bull canine breed. None whatsoever.
However, I want to also clearly establish that the Pit Bull is an extremely solid, muscular breed with strength and endurance beyond that of all other breeds. (This breed was originally created to take-down bulls!) Thus, it goes without saying that this breed and other similarly built dogs, are not a breed to “get rough” with. Obviously, in so doing, one could easily and inadvertently get hurt! The dog is not responsible to know his own strength. The owner is! It is this very fact that has been taken advantage of by criminals. (So terribly sad, but true.)
Consequently, we have the Michael Vicks of the world who exploit these wonderful dogs by abusing them to the point that the dog is given only one of two choices: to either become aggressive or to completely break down. (This fact is clearly demonstrated in the book, “The Lost Dogs.” A book that I challenge anyone who believes that Pit Bulls are “bad dogs” to read!
(Prayer: “Dear God, please bless all the Pit Bulls.”)
